Sidekick terms of service (draft — have a lawyer review before publishing)

Last updated: 2026-10-15

The software. Sidekick is a macOS application. Its source code is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0); you may use, study, share and change it under that licence. The app is free to use.
Supporting Sidekick. An optional supporter subscription marks you as a supporter (and, when they exist, unlocks paid services such as Sync). It is not required for any feature of the local app, and ending it changes nothing you can do with your data. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled via the customer portal; refunds follow the policy of the merchant of record (Polar). (If a future version requires a subscription for live features, these terms will say so before it applies to you, and reading data you already created will never require one.)
Routes and the community library. Routes are text files. Routes in the community library are contributed by their authors under the licence stated in each file (CC-BY-4.0 unless it says otherwise) and are reviewed but provided "as is". Installing one downloads only that file; nothing about you or your meetings is sent. Do not contribute anything about a real person or a real meeting.
Your AI provider. You supply your own API key and pay the provider directly. We are not responsible for provider availability, pricing, output quality or data handling.
Your responsibilities. You are responsible for lawful use, including obtaining any consent required to record or transcribe conversations, and for the accuracy of decisions you make based on Sidekick's suggestions. Suggestions are generated by AI and may be wrong.
No warranty; limitation of liability. The software is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes. We may update the software and these terms; material changes will be announced in the app.
